Mr. Ryan Dempsey, Band Director
Ryan Dempsey is a native of upstate New York but has spent most of his life in Virginia. He is a 1999 graduate of the James Madison University School of Music where he earned a degree in Music Education. While at JMU he was a member of the JMU Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, Trombone Choir, and the Marching Royal Dukes. He has taught both middle school and high school band throughout his 16 year career. His ensembles have consistently earned Superior and Excellent ratings and have earned numerous Virginia Honor Band designations from the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association. They have also earned many Blue Ribbon Awards from the Virginia Music Educators Association. For the last several years, Mr. Dempsey has worked closely with the Shenandoah Conservatory where he served as a mentor for all of the instrumental Music Education proteges. In 2014 Mr. Dempsey served as adjunct professor where he taught the marching band and jazz ensemble techniques class. Mr. Dempsey has also maintained a successful private studio where many of his students went on to pursue careers in music. He currently lives in Stephens City, Virginia with his lovely wife Kim and their two cats Timbre and Gustav.
Andy Schlaf – Assistant Director
Andy Schlaf graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees for instrumental music. During his time at CNU he performed with many ensembles including the Wind Ensemble and the Marching Captains and traveled internationally to perform. He is also a graduate of the Broad Run High School band program (Class of 2008). Mr. Schlaf also performs locally with the Loudoun Symphonic Winds as a bass and contrabass Clarinet player.
Dylan Mercer – Percussion Director
Dylan Mercer was involved in the indoor and outdoor drumline programs at Loudoun County High School where he graduated in 2010. He attended Christopher Newport University where he was a member of the Marching Captain’s drumline, CNU indoor drumline, and Phoenix Blue Percussion. He completed his studies in 2014 with a degree in Applied Physics. Since 2012 he has worked with various high school’s percussion programs in the Loudoun County area before coming to Broad Run in 2015. In his time at Broad Run he has worked with the outdoor drumline and helps design and direct the indoor drumline program. He is currently employed by Loudoun County Public Schools.
Megan Constantinides – Front Ensemble Director
Megan Constantinides joined the Yorktown High School indoor drumline in 2006, and was an active member of its front ensemble from 2006-2011. She then became a member of the Christopher Newport University front ensemble from 2011-2014, and of Phoenix Blue Percussion in 2011. Megan graduated from CNU with a degree in Psychology, and was actively engaged in elective music classes and ensembles throughout college. She joined the Broad Run staff in fall 2015, and co-wrote the indoor drumline shows from 2016 – 2018. Megan is currently pursuing her certification in music therapy at Shenandoah University, and an associate’s in music at Northern Virginia Community College. She loves early childhood music, music therapy, marimba, and cats!
Ryan Ignacic – Color Guard Director
Ryan Ignacic is a 2016 Broad Run High School Graduate, where he was an active member of the Marching Spartans Color Guard and Winterguard Programs. Ryan’s prestigious Color Guard experience includes tours with the 2015 and 2016 Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets and the 2017 and 2018 Santa Clara Vanguard, along with seasons with the 2016 and 2017 Stonewall Independent Winterguard and the 2018 George Mason University Winterguard. Ryan returned to Broad Run Marching Spartans program as a Color Guard Tech in 2016 and became our Color Guard Director in 2017.
